Rapunzel watched as Pascal scurried around the garden, evidently looking for something. He found what he was looking for and beckoned Rapunzel over. She complied and knelt down to see what he had found. “What have you got there?”

Hopping from foot to foot to channel his happiness, Pascal let out a little squeak of victory before gesturing to a small flower resting by the edge of the flowerbed. Despite the fact it’s colour was quite red-orange, it looked exactly like the one given to Rapunzel’s mother to heal her during her pregnancy. Although Pascal approached the situation cheerfully, he was worried Rapunzel would take it the wrong way, as this flower kept Mother Gothel young and led to Rapunzel having her useful, yet problematic, hair. Hopefully, it would please her.

Rapunzel’s brow furrowed as she stared at the flower. “Pascal… is this..?” She extended her fingers to stroke the petals of the familiar looking flower. “But.. I thought it was one of a kind…”

Pascal nodded, surprised at her confused reaction. He should have expected that, but obviously he didn’t think that far ahead. The flower wasnt exactly the same, as Pascal squeaked loudly before pointing to the centre of the plant, as there were no small tendrils sticking out. Also, Pascal used his fingers to trace the edge of the petals, showing the difference in shape. It seemed to be the same, when actually the two plants were quite different. Pascal thought it looked close enough, but he was sure it wouldn’t glow if Rapunzel sang the special flower song.

“It can’t be the same… can it?” Rapunzel continued to stare at the flower. The lyrics of that old melody, the one so familiar that it haunted her in her dreams, rose to the top of her memory. “Flower.. gleam and glow..” Rapunzel half whispered to the flower. “Let your powers.. shine..” The flower did not glow. She let out a little sigh of relief.

Quietly, Pascal squeaked with relief as the flower didnt glow. If it did, then Pascal would not only feel awful for showing the flower, but he would have no idea what to do with it. Rapunzel may not have liked that song, but Pascal always listened to it before he slept as he hid in the tower. Moving closer to Rapunzel, he tilted his head towards the plant as if it say, “See? Perfectly normal!”

“Hehe… silly me!” Rapunzel chuckled, slightly embarrassed. Of course that flower was one of a kind! Why else would her hair have been so precious? “Honestly, Pascal! Look you’ve got me all worked up!” She straightened up and peered around the rest of the garden. “Do you like it here, Pascal?”

“Someone told me you like to bake - so do I!” Rapunzel extended a hand. “I’m Rapunzel, what’s your name?”

“I’m Pinkie Pie!” Pinkie smiled. “Do you like baking cupcakes?”

“I’ve made a few… cookies are more my thing,” she smiled. “Want to try one?” Rapunzel produced a cookie from a shoulder bag she was wearing and presented it to Pinkie.

The little cupcake Pascal had, resting in his tiny green paws, looked stunning. Rapunzel just had them freshly made and the steam that floated into Pascal’s nostrils made him smile dreamily, his eyes half closed. It wasn’t exactly the most pleasant of days, so Rapunzel offered to make some cakes. Slowly, he used his tongue to lick around the pink icing’s edges, letting the toppings fall into his green mouth. It was amazing and as he perched on the edge of an open window, Pascal closed his eyes and let the fabulous flavours welcome his taste buds.

Rapunzel peered around the door and spotted Pascal eating the cake she had made him. ”Enjoying that?” she asked, cheerfully.

Her sudden appearance surprised Pascal, but he only jumped a little bit before nodding happily. Rapunzel was amazing when it came to sugary snacks, which Pascal enjoyed frequently. Hopefully, Rapunzel had tried one too so she could realise how good a cook she was.

“Plenty more where that came from!” Rapunzel enthused. “And I’m certainly not going to eat it all. I’m going to give some to Eugene and his parents, some to my parents and one to each of the palace guards!”

“Really Rapunzel? I’m not your mother?” Gothel’s eyes narrowed at her. “I’m the one that bathed, changed and nursed you.”

“You may have raised me, but you’re not my mother,” Rapunzel practically growled. “You kidnapped me and used me for my hair! That is not what mothers do!”
